Tiered movie ticketing is coming to a theater near you, courtesy of AMC Theatres. The company recently announced a plan to break the movie-watching experience up into three segments based on your sightline relative to the auditorium’s screen.

Here’s what we know about the initiative, called Sightline at AMC.

Sightline at AMC: What To Know About AMC’s New Tiered Seating System

In introducing the tiered pricing system, AMC signals that it is appealing to movie-goers who are very intentional about where they sit in a movie theater.

“While every seat at AMC delivers an amazing moviegoing experience, we know there are some moviegoers who prioritize their specific seat and others who prioritize value moviegoing,”  Eliot Hamlisch, EVP and CMO, AMC Theatres, said in a news release. “Sightline at AMC accommodates both sentiments to help ensure that our guests have more control over their experience, so that every trip to an AMC is a great one.”

What Is Sightline at AMC and How Does It Work?

Sightline at AMC is the company’s tiered pricing initiative that essentially creates three levels of movie-watching experiences at the theater. Here’s a breakdown of each tier and what you can expect:

Standard Sightline Seating

Standard Sightline seats are the most prevalent in the movie theater and will cost you the same as a regular movie ticket.

Value Sightline Seating

These seats are in the front row of the auditorium and will be sold at a lower cost than the others due to their location. Some select seats that align with the Americans with Disabilities Act will also fall into this category.

“Value Sightline pricing is only available to AMC Stubs members, including the free tier membership – AMC Insider,” says AMC’s news release.

Preferred Sightline Seating

Located in the middle of the auditorium, Preferred Sightline will be sold for a premium compared to the other two ticket categories.

“As an added benefit to AMC’s most loyal moviegoers, AMC Stubs A-List members may make reservations in the Preferred Sightline Section at no additional cost,” says AMC.

When Will Sightline at AMC Be Available?

Sightline at AMC has launched in select major markets, and will gradually roll out to the company’s nearly 1,000 movie theaters by the end of the year, according to the news release.

The tiered pricing system won’t apply to showtimes before 4 p.m. and won’t be available on Discount Tuesdays, the movie chain said.

Final Thoughts

With the move to tiered pricing, AMC is betting that its most high-income customers will be willing to pay for better seats to watch films.
