These 150 Sears and Kmart locations are closing in early 2017

Sears and Kmart plan to close 150 struggling stores in the new year, Sears Holdings has announced.

On January 4, Sears Holdings informed employees at 78 Kmart stores and 26 Sears stores that their locations will be closing this spring. That’s in addition to 30 Kmart and 16 Sears closures that we learned about December 27.

Liquidation sales will begin as early as January 6. Most stores will close by the end of March.

Sears Holdings said the decision to close the stores is a difficult but necessary step as the company works to restore profitability. Affected employees will receive severance pay.

To raise cash, Sears also announced plans to sell its Craftsman business to Stanley Black & Decker.
