Bebe is the latest retailer to close stores

The retailer’s future remains unclear, though some speculate it will continue as an online-only merchant.

Bebe operates 134 retail stores and 34 outlet stores, according to its website. The company’s sales have fallen as fewer people choose to shop at malls.

Bebe is certainly not alone. Major retailer have closed a total of more than 3,000 stores so far in 2017, and that trend will only continue.

“The reality is that America has been overstored. We have far too many retail locations, shopping centers and branches of different chains,” Clark said. “But stores that are meeting your needs with low prices will continue to thrive.”

In the meantime, if you have a gift card to Bebe or any other struggling retailer, use it up before it’s too late.
