A popular sweet treat sold under multiple brand names is being recalled this week due to the possible contamination of salmonella. The voluntary recall affects Swiss rolls manufactured by Flowers Foods Inc. of Thomasville, Georgia.

The rolls were distributed under the following brands: Baker’s Treat, Mrs. Freshley’s, Market Square and Great Value, according to a press release from Flower Foods. Also being recalled is some Captain John Derst’s Old Fashioned Bread.

Swiss rolls sold at Walmart, H-E-B, Food Lion recalled due to salmonella risk

Major retailers such as Walmart, H-E-B and Food Lion carried the Swiss rolls across the country. The bread was sold in in a handful of states across the South: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

“The ingredient recall was initiated by a third-party whey powder manufacturer and supplier. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled items,” the Foods recall notice says.

So far, there have been no cases of sickness associated with the recalled products.

Salmonella symptoms include diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps. If it gets into the bloodstream, Salmonella can cause infections of the artery and more, according to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention.
