If you have an old cell phone just lying around the house, you may be able to sell it for cash online.

In this article, I’ll take a close look at ItsWorthMore, a popular website for selling used electronics. I’ve gone through the process of getting a quote on ItsWorthMore to see what the process is like, and I’ve also checked out a few other websites for selling and buying used phones to find out how ItsWorthMore compares.

This article was updated in March 2024 and I review it every 12 months. Detailed notes on all updates can be found here.

Selling Your Phone at ItsWorthMore

Compared to other companies that buy used phones and electronics, ItsWorthMore may offer one of the highest cash returns. Still, according to customer feedback online, communication is key when selling to ItsWorthMore. If your phone is in worse condition than you say, ItsWorthMore will make a lower counteroffer. If you don’t respond within a certain timeframe, the company will assume you’re accepting the offer which could be significantly lower than what you were hoping to get.

Still, while ItsWorthMore has its fair share of negative reviews, it is recognized as a safe and trustworthy company. The company is accredited by the Better Business Bureau and maintains a 4.6/5 rating on Trustpilot.

If you’re thinking about selling your phone at ItsWorthMore, here are five things to know before getting started:

  1. What Is ItsWorthMore?
  2. Is ItsWorthMore Safe?
  3. How To Sell Your Phone
  4. How Does ItsWorthMore Compare?
  5. Tips for Selling Your Phone

Below, you’ll find more detailed information about how to sell your phone on ItsWorthMore, how to earn the most for your device and how this buyback company compares to other popular options.

1. What Is ItsWorthMore?

According to the company’s website, ItsWorthMore is a service that buys your used electronics online. The company currently accepts cell phones (including iPhones and Samsung devices), laptops, MacBooks, iPads, iPods, tablets, desktop computers, cameras, smartwatches, VR consoles, gaming consoles and more.

If you have 20+ of the same device to sell (perhaps from a company or organization), you can also sell in bulk to ItsWorthMore. This option provides higher offers, increased priority and more payment options.

In addition to selling your old technology, you can also buy refurbished technology from ItsWorthMore.

2. Is ItsWorthMore Safe?

In short: Yes, ItsWorthMore is safe. The buyback company was founded in 2012 and has greatly expanded its customer base since then.

The company is accredited by the Better Business Bureau and maintains an A+ grade. On Trustpilot, customer reviews give ItsWorthMore 4.6 out of 5 stars, which earns the company an “Excellent” ranking. Still, if you’ve been researching ItsWorthMore, you’ve probably come across a few negative reviews on both websites. I spent some time reading these reviews to determine the main issues.

I found that most negative reviews mentioned the process taking longer than anticipated and getting less money than initially quoted. Of course, this can happen if your item is in worse condition than you described online.

Regarding the delay in response time, I found that most of these complaints happened in January. ItsWorthMore representatives have responded to these reviews explaining that there is always an influx of shipments right after the holidays. For this reason, I don’t recommend selling your device right at the beginning of the year.

When it came to getting a lower offer than the initial online quote, some customers reported that the device wasn’t accurately assessed. According to the company’s website, if you disagree with the evaluation of your phone, you can ask for a re-inspection. Then, a different representative will evaluate your phone and see if they agree with the initial evaluation or if they can increase the offer amount.

Here’s what ItsWorthMore says about getting a lower payment than you were quoted online:

“Please note that the final offer price could end up being higher or lower. If it’s lower, we will provide a detailed email regarding the adjustment and you would then have 3 days to accept the offer. If you do not respond within the 3-day time period, we will assume you have accepted the offer and will initiate the payment to be processed.”

For this reason, it’s important to keep an open line of communication with ItsWorthMore about the status of your item once you send it in.

3. How To Sell Your Phone

ItsWorthMore will offer an instant quote online for your phone or other device. You can select the specific model, storage space, carrier and condition to see how much ItsWorthMore is willing to pay you for it. If you like the quote, you can ship it for free to be inspected. Once your phone passes the inspection, you’ll get paid within two business days.

If you’re thinking about selling your phone to ItsWorthMore, here’s what you can expect throughout the process:

Get a Quote

The first step in selling your phone to ItsWorthMore is getting a quote online.

When you first visit the website, click on “start selling.” Then, you can select the product you’re selling from the list or search for your device in the search bar.

Once you choose which type of technology you’re selling, you’ll be asked to pick the specific device or model. Again, you can search for your device if you don’t see it immediately.

After you pick your device, you’ll have to answer a few questions about its condition, carrier and capacity. It’s important to be extremely honest when answering questions about your device’s condition in order to avoid getting a revised offer once your phone is evaluated by ItsWorthMore.

You can also choose to sell the accessories that came with the phone or sell the phone by itself. Then, you’ll receive an offer.

If you like the offer you receive, click “Add to Box.” Then, you can proceed to checkout to complete the process.

Ship Your Phone

Once you’ve added your device, you’ll have to create an account or checkout as a guest by entering your email address. Then, you’ll be able to choose your preferred payment method: PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, check or digital check.

After you’ve entered your preferred payment method, you’ll be able to enter your address for the shipping label. ItsWorthMore offers free shipping on devices that you sell to the company.

You can choose expedited shipping to get paid faster, but this will have an additional cost. You can also choose whether you want to add full shipping insurance. Though a nice perk is that all packages are insured up to $100 for free.

After this, you’ll be able to choose how you want to ship your device: FedEx or UPS. You can print a free label for either.

Once you have your free shipping label, prepare your device, package it securely and drop it off at your chosen carrier. Keep in mind that your trade in must be received within 21 days from offer creation

Check for Updates

After you’ve shipped your device to ItsWorthMore, the next step is to wait for updates. It’s important to check your email so that you’ll know if there are any problems with the shipment or condition of your phone

You’ll receive a prepaid and trackable shipping label via FedEx or UPS with Delivery Confirmation included. ItsWorthMore says that you will also receive an email from the company once your package is received.

According to ItsWorthMore, 5-10 business days is the normal shipping window. The company does offer a two-day expedited shipping service at checkout; however, this does come with an additional fee that will be deducted from your payout.

Once ItsWorthMore receives your phone, it will be inspected. You should receive another email after your phone’s evaluation. If their evaluation matches your online evaluation of your phone’s condition, the company will buy your phone for the quoted amount. If ItsWorthMore determines that your phone’s condition doesn’t match the description, you’ll receive a counteroffer that you must respond to within three days. After that timeframe, the lower offer will be automatically accepted. This is the main reason it’s important to check your email regularly once you’ve shipped your phone.

Get Paid

After your phone passes its inspection or a counteroffer is accepted, ItsWorthMore will issue your payment within two business days.

“Your payment will be sent to you after we receive and inspect your item(s), which typically takes 4 to 7 business days. After your item(s) have been inspected, payment is processed within 24-48 hours of approval.”

Currently, ItsWorthMore offers five methods of payment: PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, check or digital check. If you choose PayPal, Venmo, Zelle or digital check you’ll receive your payment faster. Traditional checks are delivered via mail, which can take 5-10 business days to arrive.

4. Is ItsWorthMore the Best Place To Sell Your Phone?

The best way to decide where to sell your cell phone is by collecting quotes from a few different places. Then, choose the offer that will be the most profitable for you and your device.

I tried this by gathering quotes from six different companies that buy used phones. I looked at offers for an unlocked iPhone 12 in average condition with 64GB of storage. Here’s what I found in March 2024:

CompanyOffer
Swappa$265
ItsWorthMore$187
Gazelle$185
BuyBackWorld$160
Decluttr$142
ecoATM$140

Generally speaking, you’ll find some of the highest offers at Swappa followed by ItsWorthMore, Gazelle and BuyBackWorld. Of course, it’s important to check out a few secondary markets to see where phones like yours are earning the most.

You may be able to list a higher bid on Swappa, but there’s no guarantee that your phone will sell. However, with ItsWorthMore, you will get an instant quote online that’s good for 21 days as long as your phone arrives as described. Plus, you can choose from five different payment methods compared to Swappa’s one.

If you like the quote you get online and you know your phone is in the right condition, ItsWorthMore could be a great way to sell your cell phone. In addition to a great price, ItsWorthMore offers free shipping and fast payment once your phone passes its inspection.

5. Tips for Selling Your Phone at ItsWorthMore

If you’re thinking about selling your phone at ItsWorthMore, here are a few tips to keep in mind to get the most out of the sale:

  • Compare the quote to other buyback programs. Once you have a quote from ItsWorthMore, compare it to other offers online. Check out secondary markets like Swappa, Gazelle, BuyBackWorld and Decluttr to get an idea of how much your phone is going for. This is a great way to decide whether ItsWorthMore is worth your time.
  • Be honest about your phone and its condition. If you do decide to sell your phone to ItsWorthMore, make sure all the information that you enter is correct. If you accidentally select the wrong model or storage size, you may not get the amount of money you’re initially quoted. Be as honest as possible when describing the item’s condition. This is the best way to avoid getting a counteroffer.
  • Prepare your phone for sale. No matter where you decide to sell your phone, be sure to back up your data and then wipe the device clean, restoring it to factory settings. This will clear all of your personal information before the sale.
  • Ship ASAP and check for updates regularly. ItsWorthMore recommends shipping your phone as soon as possible once you get a quote. Since the quote is good for just 21 days, it’s best to get the item in the mail quickly. Once you ship your phone, check your email regularly for updates. You’ll get a notification when your phone arrives and again after the inspection. Remember, you’ll have only three days to decline a counteroffer before ItsWorthMore accepts it on your behalf.

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, ItsWorthMore is a great option for selling your cell phone or any other used technology that the website accepts. ItsWorthMore offers some of the highest returns for used phones alongside Swappa, Gazelle and BuyBackWorld, plus you’ll get an instant online quote and free shipping.

Before you sell your phone, be sure to get a few quotes from different websites that buy used technology so that you know where you’ll earn the biggest profit possible. And no matter where you decide to sell your phone, be sure to back it up and wipe it clean before sending it in.

If you do sell your phone to ItsWorthMore, make sure you’re honest about your phone’s condition and check for updates on your order regularly. Ship your phone as soon as possible and be ready for a counteroffer. Once your phone passes its inspection, you can expect ItsWorthMore to issue your payment within two business days via PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, digital check or check.
