UPS is going on a holiday hiring spree

The package delivery company just announced it will be adding nearly 100,000 people to the payroll to deal with the Christmas rush that starts in November.

This includes full- and part-time positions with flexible hours at thousands of locations across the country — either permanent package hubs or temporary facilities the company builds to meet heightened holiday shipping demand.

A majority of the jobs being offered involve working as a package handler, driver or driver-helper.

Picking up a seasonal job now could lead to long-term employment with UPS. Since 2015, some 35% of people hired for seasonal work were offered full-time employment after the holiday season ended, the company notes.

Last year, UPS hired 95,000 seasonal employees around this time of year. So adding nearly 100,000 people to the payroll in 2018 represents a roughly 5% increase in holiday hiring year-over-year.
