For the second year in a row, we’re getting major recall news involving home appliances that could catch on fire or explode — right before people start spending more time at home during the holidays!

Last year in November, nearly 3 million Samsung washing machines were recalled because they were in danger of blowing their tops — literally.

Now we’re learning about a recall expansion from some major dishwasher brands. This one involves a new round of nearly 500,000 units that could pose a fire hazard.

Four major dishwasher brands at risk

Some 408,000 units from the Bosch, Gaggenau, Jenn-Air and Thermador dishwasher lines are being recalled by home appliance maker BSH.

In addition, BSH is also recalling another 61,000 dishwashers sold in Canada.

The recall was prompted by five reports of power cords overheating and causing fires resulting in property damage.

All affected units were sold for between $850 and $2,600 at appliance and specialty retailers, department stores, authorized builder distributors and home improvement stores nationwide and online from January 2013 through May 2015.

BSH previously recalled 149,000 units from Bosch, Gaggenau and Thermador in October 2015 over concerns about the same fire hazards, so this latest recall is actually an expansion of that earlier one.

The dishwashers were sold in stainless steel, black, white and custom panel.
