T-Mobile has launched what it calls its “best deal ever” for seniors, but can this new unlimited data plan really save you money? And how does it stack up against our best phone plans for seniors list?
The plan is called T-Mobile Essentials Unlimited 55 and includes unlimited talk, text and high-speed data for customers 55+ only. The $55 monthly price for two lines reflects an auto-pay discount, but taxes and fees are extra.
Meanwhile, taxes and fees are included with the Magenta Unlimited 55 plan, which is $70 a month for two lines.
T-Mobile’s new unlimited plan for seniors
Since taxes and fees are extra with the Essentials plan, it makes calculating the savings more complicated. You definitely won’t be saving $15 a month ($55 vs. $70) by switching to the new deal.
In fact, once the additional fees are added to Essentials, your bill may be almost the same as the Magenta plan.
Aside from the pricing, the Essentials Unlimited 55 plan leaves a few things out compared to Magenta. With Essentials, there’s no data abroad, 4G LTE mobile hotspot, 4G data in Mexico & Canada, and in-flight Wi-Fi.
If those things aren’t important to you, Essentials may be worth considering — just don’t expect to save more than a few bucks.
