All of the major cell phone companies are working to improve their 5G networks. However, no one can currently beat T-Mobile.
Ookla, a website that analyzes internet performance, recently released a market analysis for the first quarter of 2022. The study revealed T-Mobile’s 5G performance is far above that of Verizon and AT&T.
T-Mobile 5G Network Performance and Availability
Ookla releases a quarterly market analysis that covers the current speeds, latency, consistency and availability from T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless and AT&T. The Q1 2022 report was recently published, and it revealed T-Mobile’s 5G network is currently #1.
According to Ookla, T-Mobile had the fastest median 5G download speed in the U.S. at 191.12 Mbps, which was a slight increase compared to last quarter.

Verizon came in second but improved greatly from the prior quarter (from 78.52 to 107.25 Mbps). This improvement is likely due to its new 5G C-band spectrum. AT&T saw little improvement from Q4 2021, according to Ookla.
To test availability, Ookla looks at “the percentage of users on 5G-capable devices that spend the majority of their time on 5G, both roaming and on-network.”

As you can see, T-Mobile came out on top in this category as well.
Finally, Ookla measured each operator’s ability to provide consistent speeds over a 5G connection. However, it was determined that there was no obvious winner for the highest 5G consistency score.

To see the full details of Ookla’s study, including the methodology, check it out here. You’ll also find the results of additional tests, which reveal that T-Mobile still offers the best connection so far in 2022 whether or not you’re using the 5G network.

T-Mobile Has Expanded 5G Home Internet Availability
In addition to offering some of the fastest, most widely available, consistent 5G access to wireless customers, T-Mobile is expanding its 5G Home Internet along with it.
In March 2022, T-Mobile increased access to 5G Home Internet across the south which made it available to more than 30 million households nationwide. Nearly a month later in April, T-Mobile expanded its 5G Home Internet to 10 million more households, making the service available to more than 40 million households nationwide.
According to the press release details, T-Mobile added more broadband customers than any other provider in the country during the fourth quarter of 2021, and the company expects to have 7 to 8 million fixed wireless customers by 2025.
T-Mobile 5G Home Internet provides access to T-Mobile’s 5G network through a router that converts the signal to Wi-Fi. It costs $50 per month with autopay and provides typical download speeds of 35-115 Mbps according to T-Mobile’s website.
