With major cell phone service carriers raising their prices this year, more affordable MVNOs are getting ready to welcome new customers with open arms. An example: Mint Mobile is making it easier than ever for families with two or more lines to switch and save with the Mint Modern Family Plan.

This article will take a close look at Mint’s new family plan and help you decide whether or not you should make the switch.

The Mint Modern Family Plan

If you have more than one line on your cell phone plan, Mint Mobile’s new Mint Modern Family Plan may be a great way to save on your bill. Beginning at $15 per line, the Mint Modern Family Plan allows you to add between two and five lines. Plus, you can customize the plan to meet each person’s data needs.

Money expert Clark Howard says that makes him a fan.

What I really love is that each person, up to five people on a family plan, can do different things. If you have someone who doesn’t use very much data, they can be on their cheapest plan; for somebody who uses tons of data and wants unlimited, you pay for their most expensive plan. Guess what it is a month? $30!

Here’s a complete list of Mint Mobile plans that you can choose from on Mint Modern Family:

  • 4GB: $15 per month
  • 10GB: $20 per month
  • 15GB: $25 per month
  • Unlimited: $30 per month

Note that Mint Mobile’s unlimited plan actually includes 35GB of high-speed 5G LTE data before reduced speeds. Still, that’s quite a bit of data. In fact, Clark estimates that half the people in America use less than 4GB per month. If one or more lines on your account can get by with the 4GB plan, you’ll see huge savings on your phone bill compared to the major carriers.

There is one catch with Mint Mobile though: You’ll have to prepay for three months of service at a time. If you have two lines on your Mint Modern Family Plan, the cheapest possible price is $90 for 4GB per line per month. However, this price covers you for three months, which works out to only be $30 per month total for two lines.

Mint Mobile: A Reliable, Affordable MVNO

If you aren’t familiar with Mint Mobile, it’s an MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) that runs on T-Mobile’s towers. It provides access to the same great service and 5G network (on capable devices) for a fraction of the price.

Check Mint Mobile’s coverage map to see if you’ll have service in your area. If you are covered, you’ll likely experience some of the fastest download speeds available on T-Mobile’s network.

Mint Mobile’s plan prices make the company one of several really aggressive inexpensive discounters in the cell phone space according to money expert Clark Howard. Mint Mobile has won several awards on Clark.com including:

I recently tried out Mint Mobile myself, and I had a great experience with service, data speeds and support. If you’re thinking about making the switch to Mint Mobile, be sure to read my full Mint Mobile review here first.

Final Thoughts: Should You Switch?

If you’re wondering whether or not you should make the switch to Mint Mobile, here’s my recommendation: Check your phone’s compatibility online, make sure you’ll have service in your area by checking Mint Mobile’s coverage map and then give it a try!

Mint Mobile offers access to T-Mobile’s excellent network via extremely affordable plans, especially on unlimited data. Now with the Mint Modern Family Plan, it’s easier than ever to manage multiple lines while taking advantage of the savings, making it a great affordable option if you’re looking for a cell phone plan for 2 lines or more.

While Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile are trying to push rates up, all these discounters are being very aggressive on price. You have to decide if they’re good for you or not. But if they are, you’re going to save money each and every month and tons of money over the course of a year if you go with one of the deep discounters.
