342,381 Kia Souls recalled over steering flaw

The recall is for model years 2014 to 2016 — after reports of a recurring steering issue, according to a report made by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The affected vehicles may contain a pinion plug that could allow the pinion gear to separate from the steering gear assembly — which can cause the driver to lose all. control of steering

“The driver will hear a clunking noise from the steering rack while turning the steering wheel,” the report said.

If the pinion gear is separated and causes loss of steering, the risk of a crash are increased. The steering flaw was supposed to be repaired after the 2014 recall of the same model, but apparently Kia is having trouble fixing the issue.

Here are the affected vehicles in the recall

  • 2014- 2016 Kia Soul
  • 2014- 2016 Kia Soul EV

No injuries have been reported and Kia will start notifying customers by mail in mid-November. The company will also be reimbursing customers who have already paid for repairs from the previous recall.
