GM is recalling more than a million pickup trucks and SUVs in the United States because of power steering problems that have so far resulted in more than two dozen crashes.

A look at GM’s power steering recall
It’s not been a good week for GM, to say the least. Earlier in the week, we told you about faulty brakes that prompted the recall of 230,000 Chevys and Buicks. And now this!
This latest recall was prompted by 30 reports of crashes with two injuries that GM received stemming from a power steering malfunction.
At issue is the temporarily failure of the power steering, which is occurring during low-speed turns when the voltage drops and then suddenly returns, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
The recall includes certain models of:
- 2015 Chevrolet Silverados
- 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 pickups
- 2015 Chevy Tahoes and Suburban SUVs
- 2015 Cadillac Escalade and GMC Yukon SUVs
Last year, GM had to recall nearly 700,000 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 trucks for the very same power-steering defect.
Owners are being advised to contact their local GM dealer to schedule a free fix, which will involve an update to the power steering software.
