World War II veteran Billy Hargrove walked the AJC Peachtree Road Race (or The Peachtree as it’s called locally) in Atlanta wearing Clark Howard’s number this 4th of July. For those of you unfamiliar with the AJC Peachtree Road Race, it’s estimated to be the largest 10k in the world and has been held every Independence Day since 1970!

Hargrove wore the number proudly through the end of the race, which he finished with his son Marlin in less than two hours. Clark heard about Hargrove’s search for a race number from a friend’s Facebook page. Although Clark gave Hargrove his number, he was still able to run the Peachtree using his wife’s number after she unfortunately hurt her foot before the race.

Participating in the Peachtree is another item Mr. Billy Hargrove can cross off his bucket list, but his son Marlin says that when his father “checks one off, he adds two things.”

“Life is full of things to do,” said Hargrove. His energy and exhuberance are an inspiration — see for yourself in this WSB-TV video. Hargrove said he encourages people to “wear out, don’t rust out!”
