About this photo: I have over 300 photos of this same spot from numerous trips down California Highway 101 south from Carmel. Most viewers will recognize it from the dozens of car commercials filmed here for five decades.
Best deal found: Gourmet sandwiches for $4.95 in a Carmel gas station.

About this photo: We rented a houseboat from Lake Lanier Islands. This is a great idea for a unique family vacation. The picture shows my son Matt with friends Cassie, Amy & Austin jumping off the houseboat.
Best deal found: With kids back in school you can get a great deal on a boat rental (more of a discount for mid-week). We also brought all of our own food on the boat and used the grill for hot dogs.

Best deal found: Flew to Anchorage on frequent flyer miles & rented an RV for just a fraction more than it cost to rent a compact car. Campgrounds were between $10 – $15 per night. Traveled around for one week then cruised with Holland America to Vancouver for $399 per person.

About this photo: We drove to Keys View which has an overlook of the valley and San Andreas Fault. We arrived at the perfect time to see the sunset. This random tree was on the side of the mountain to provide such a nice shot shielding the sun.
Best deal found: 2 Filipino food plates fed four people for $13 in San Diego. We also had 4 free tickets to Universal Studios in LA with a Front of the Line Pass ($129 each). Well, we had them until I lost it.

Toll Takers castle along the Rhine. Barges and boats could not pass until they paid the local nobleman a fee for passing.
Best deal found:
None. This was a River cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest from July 21/August 8, 2009. The cost of food was expensive and just fair in quality off the ship and the service is poor compared to American standards.

Best deal found: I flew Frontier and got dbl miles. Now I have enough for a free segment next trip. Tried to sleep @ Longs peak parking lot one night but got bounced. This was a $20 permit to bivy beneath the Petit but would have been free if I planned it earlier in the year.

About this photo: We rented a yacht and went to many of the Islands over 14 days. We scuba dived, fished, shopped, and enjoyed some great food.
