No matter how much you do it, solo travel can be intimidating. But you might end up with a network of pals even if you’ve started your trip alone.
Check out Peek, an app that steers you toward activities and adventures in 22 cities around the world – all in the company of like-minded travelers.
It offers a curated list of activities from vetted third-party operators, ranging from bike tours to food crawls and themed excursions: a James Bond tour of London with lunch at Heatherden Hall (which served as the Spectre headquarters in From Russia With Love), or a day riding ATVs in Eldorado Canyon, just outside Las Vegas.
Browse by categories like “What to do with the kids” or “Off the beaten path”.
The app maintains real-time availability and a best-price guarantee so you can book online worry-free—even last-minute.

TripAdvisor Statement
TripAdvisor has added badges to mark hotels and resorts where sexual assault has been reported in a bid to flag “health, safety, and discrimination issues” at popular travel destinations, The New York Times reports. The move comes after the travel website came under fire this month for deleting a woman’s post alleging a sexual assault at a well-known Mexican resort. The company issued a public apology last week to Dallas resident Kristie Love, who said numerous warnings she’d posted on the site about an alleged sexual assault at the Iberostar Paraiso Maya hotel had been deleted.
Iberostar Paraiso Maya is among the locations flagged with TripAdvisor’s new badge, along with the Grand Velas Riviera Maya and the Iberostar Paraiso Lindo, all highly rated sites in Mexico’s Playa del Carmen region.
Kevin Carter, a spokesman for the website, told the Times the badges are “intended to be informative, not punitive.” “These badges will remain on TripAdvisor for up to three months. However, if the issues persist we may extend the duration of the badge,” he said.

Best Value Hotels
TripAdvisor has recently announced the 10 Best Value Hotels in the U.S. this fall, based on traveler reviews and TripAdvisor price comparison of 200 booking sites for the lowest seasonal hotel rates. To qualify as a Best Value Hotel, a property must have at least 3.5 stars and four bubbles on TripAdvisor, and offer seasonal nightly average rates that are at least 20% below the city average and cost less than $300 per night.
The average nightly rate of a U.S. Best Value Hotel this fall on TripAdvisor is $235 and travelers can save an average of 32% compared to the city’s seasonal average hotel price.
Properties in popular travel destinations that offer the combination of quality rooms and amenities, great location and low prices are often trendy or fun independent properties with local flavor.
Case in point: Bahia Resort Hotel in San Diego. Set on Mission Bay, this relaxed resort is a 12-minute walk from Belmont Paris and 2.2 miles from SeaWorld San Diego. Travelers enjoy the hotel’s natural beauty along Mission Bay with Pacific Ocean views, the lush tropical gardens, winding walkways, gentle ocean breezes and a rescued seal pond. A TripAdvisor reviewer commented, “The best value deal in hotels I have stayed in a long time and I can’t wait to be back and completely relax!”
Rooms are simple and some have beach or garden views. Studios and select suites add kitchenettes and dining tables, as well as sitting areas and bay views.
Dining options include a Mediterranean cafe and a Moroccan-themed lounge bar. There’s an outdoor pool, a Jacuzzi and tennis courts, plus a kids’ game room and shuffleboard. Free cruises with entertainment are available, as well as a free shuttle to a nearby spa. Guests also have private beach access.
Rates from $94.

W Bellevue
The new W Bellevue is a 275,000-square-foot oasis designed with repeating A-frame ceilings and curated artwork that combines the rich and inviting feel of a lake house.
Overlooking Lake Washington, this flashy hotel with a glass facade is next to Bellevue Arts Museum, a mile from Interstate 405, 2 miles from Bellevue Botanical Garden, and about 45 minutes east of Seattle.
Hallways to guest rooms are adorned with framed photos, adding to the comfort of the lake house design and the guest rooms have some homey touches – woven swings inside one of the suites looks out over the downtown. Upgraded rooms offer window seats and/or lake views. Suites add separate living rooms. Upgraded suites feature kitchenettes; some have sunken tubs and in-room gyms. Room service is available 24/7.
A magnificent mural winding several stories around a floating staircase depicts a mosaic of the region’s history, including the beloved wildlife and forested landscapes. Masked by the mural on the first floor is the entrance to the Civility and Unrest speakeasy where the main bar takes center stage.
The Living Room and Porch on an upper floor has sweeping city views of the city. The Lakehouse restaurant is more muted in its black and white design, but no less breathtaking than the rest of the hotel.
Also onsite is a library, and a gym.
Rates from $189.
