Extra Ticket Fees
When searching for cheap airfare, expect to pony up for a seat reservation, a carry-on or checked bag or extra legroom. According to a new study from IdeaWorksCompany, in 2016 Spirit received an industry-leading $49.89 per passenger in ancillary revenues on a one-way ticket.
Here’s the Top 10 list:
Spirit: $49.89
Allegiant: $48.93
Frontier: $48.60
United: $43.46
Jet2.com: $42.46
Qantas: $42.38
Virgin Atlantic: $42.25
AirAsia X: $34.41
Korean Air: $32.59

Spirit also holds the top spot for generating the largest percentage of its overall revenues from fees with 46.4% — followed by Frontier (42.4%), Allegiant (40%), and then the European carriers Wizz Air (39.4%) and Ryanair (26.8%).
Legacy airlines hold the top 4 spots for collecting the most in fees overall:
United: $6.22 billion
Delta: $5.17 billion
American: $4.9 billion
Southwest: $2.83 billion
Air France/KLM: $2.10 billion

NOTE: Airline fees can and often do exceed the cost of your flight! Additional charges now apply to budget and sale rates on most airlines for a carry-on bag, checked baggage and advance seat assignments. The least expensive fees are charged when these options are purchased during the ticket booking process. Fees climb higher after flights are reserved and even higher when adding these options at airport check-in. Kayak offers the most up-to-date Fees Chart for all domestic and international airlines.

Budget NYC
The 98-room Life Hotel is housed in a historic building that was once the headquarters of LIFE Magazine. Find contemporary furnishings throughout the lobby and the lobby bar, which serves crafted cocktails, beer and wine daily.
The Life Restaurant is expected to open in the fall with a vegetable-centric, seasonally driven menu. Additionally, there will be a discreet basement-level bar, originally used by LIFE magazine employees as a speakeasy, which offers handcrafted classic cocktails.
Guest rooms feature wrought iron bed frames, brass fixtures, high ceilings, 60-inch flat-screen TV equipped with streaming functionality EVOLVE by Google ChromeCast, unique artwork and Carrera marble countertop bathroom vanities with full bath and 7-inch rain showerheads.
The Summer in the City package, priced from $149 includes a third night free, continental breakfast and daily happy hour. Refer to promo code LIFESTAY3. Valid for stays through September 4.
The hotel is in the NoMad neighborhood, a 5-minute walk from the 34 Street/Herald Square Station subway and 4 minutes’ walk from the Empire State Building.
At the height of the magazine’s popularity 100 years ago, it was one of the first buildings to introduce the concept of work and play in one space, as many of the editors slept in residences above the office spaces and partied in a basement speakeasy, which has been restored to its former glory.
