TRAVEL TIPS & TIDBITS

News from Italy
Booking access to Piazza San Marco, or St. Mark’s Square in Venice is to be trialed later this year. There will not be a set limit on access but entry will have to be reserved. Aimed at reducing chronic overcrowding in Venice’s most iconic square (the city sees 25 million annual tourists), city officials have been looking at various ways of cutting the crowds, including a visitor cap and charging entrance fees.
Venice has recently banned kebab shops, shops selling pizza by the slice, and other fast-food outlets from opening.
Florence has attempted to clamp down on “foreign food” by ruling that all new restaurants and food shops in the city”s historic center must ensure at least 70% of their produce is local.
______
Rome‘s Mayor Raggi has banned fake centurions from hustling tourists in the historic center of the Italian capital. The new ordinance is valid around the Colosseum, Forum, Trevi Fountain and the rest of the center until October 31 and carries a fine of 400 euros for centurions who flout it.
There have been a number of bans on the centurions over the years and they have had to meet new requirements on their costumes and their foreign-language skills. Now street artists’ groups must work with the city to determine clear rules on how the centurions work and how much they are paid.

Field Museum Exhibit
Following record setting attendance in Melbourne, Australia and Philadelphia, it’s your turn to attend this summer’s “must do” Chicago event, Jurassic World: The Exhibition at Chicago’s Field Museum.
Featuring the closest simulation of dinosaurs ever created, the exhibition is infused with interactive educational elements drawn from the real-world science of dinosaur DNA that allowed Jurassic World to come to life.
Visitors will travel to Isla Nublar as VIP guests to explore a towering Brachiosaurus; come face-to-face with a Velociraptor; and get a rare up-close look at the most vicious dinosaur of them all, Tyrannosaurus rex. To accommodate the massive size of the dinosaurs, the Field Museum is erecting a 20,000-square foot exhibition tent on the front lawn of the museum – a first-of-its-kind structure for the museum. The event runs through January 7.
Over two dozen Chicago hotels are offering hotel packages for couples, friends and families including discount room rates and VIP admission to the exhibition. Many also include gift cards in various amounts to use in the Field Museum Store. Exhibition hotel package rates start at $149.
The Blackstone is offering a number of package benefits, at rates from $189 a night, as well including several dinosaur-inspired cocktails available at the hotel’s lobby lounge, Timothy’s Hutch.
All guests to the exhibition will receive a Perks” card offering a combined value of approximately $700 in benefits and discounts at select Chicago area restaurants, attractions and entertainment venues. Partners include Potbelly Sandwich Shop, Park Grill at Millennium Park, Blue Man Group, 360 Chicago, Giordano’s, Skydeck Chicago, Rainforest Cafe and more.

Fees climb higher after flights are reserved and even higher when adding these options at airport check-in. Kayak offers the most up-to-date Fees Chart for all domestic and international airlines.
