Paris’ High Line
Promenade Plantée is now one of Paris’ cherished landmark. The green stroll (30+ feet above the street) was developed from a long-abandoned mid-19th century viaduct. It became the world’s first elevated park walkway when it opened in 1993 in the 12th arrondissement of Paris. Today the line that stretches 4.7 kilometers (nearly 3 miles) – from the Bastille to the Bois de Vincennes – is planted with cherry trees, maples, rose trellises, bamboo corridors and lavender.
The first couple kilometers of the park are raised up on these tracks, and then the park gradually lowers to the ground level.
Elevators and staircases dot the route to go to street level to check out shops below. The Viaduc des Arts are 45 brick archways transformed into artisan showrooms that range from violin-makers to glass blowers, jewellers to furniture and tapestry restorers.
But the city panorama across Parisian rooftops is the draw.

The Future is Here
Delta Air Lines has teamed up with trusted-traveler program Clear to begin piloting a biometric boarding pass at Reagan National. Eligible Delta SkyMiles members can access the Delta Sky Club using only their fingerprints on one of three available scanners.
A second phase would allow eligible members to exchange their boarding pass and ID for fingerprint identification at Delta’s ticket counter stations for bag drops, at boarding gates and Delta Sky Club desks.
Delta passengers with a SkyMiles number and who are also enrolled in Clear can participate in the pilot.
JetBlue will be the first airline to use biometrics and facial recognition technology to verify customers at the gate during boarding. The paperless and deviceless self-boarding process will be trialed on flights from Boston Logan to Queen Beatrix International Airport in Aruba. Travelers who want to participate in the process will need to have their picture taken at a camera station in order to match it to the Customs and Border Protection’s database of passport, visa or immigration photos. The process could be the future solution for quick and easy boarding.
All of the nearly 5,000 guest rooms at Wynn Las Vegas will feature Amazon Echo, enabling guests to control the room lights, temperature, drapes, and TV with the device.
Marriott is testing both Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa in hotel rooms.
For instance, rooms at the Aloft Boston Seaport are outfitted with either Apple devices (Siri) or Amazon Echo (Alexa). The JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country already has 10 rooms equipped with the Amazon Echo.
Best Western Hotels & Resorts believes artificial intelligence and voice activation is the future vs. messaging and is testing Amazon Dot devices in a dozen hotels. The in-room Amazon Dot can be used by guests to leave a wake-up call, play music, order room service or report to housekeeping about needed maintenance.
