You could have gotten a free burrito from Chipotle on Monday, but not if you texted the wrong number.

If you texted ‘RAINCHECK’ to 888-222, you would have gotten a burrito as Chipotle’s apology for the E. coli health issue.

Make sure you text the correct number…

Those who added another 2, texting 888-2222 instead, were texting a technology attorney from Washington, D.C., named Hank Levine, who couldn’t give you free Chipotle burritos.

‘It started this morning around 9 a.m. when I suddenly got a text that just said, ‘raincheck,” Levine told Tech Insider. ‘Curious, I wrote back with a question mark.’

‘The person said, ‘I want my burrito.’ I told them they had the wrong number.’

Levine had over 60 text messages, which started coming in at 9 a.m. Monday.

His daughter in law, Dorry Levine, tweeted a screenshot of Hank Levine’s phone.

Despite some harsh responses when Hank Levine told some texters that they had the wrong number, his sympathy is with Chipotle.

‘I feel bad for Chipotle,’ Levine said. ‘They’ve got all of southern Maryland thinking I’m giving out coupons for free burritos.’
