Here’s what’s new at Burger King

A better chicken option is here

When you think about Burger King, you don’t exactly think about chicken. But with people eating more chicken these days, that’s a problem.

The solution? Burger King’s newly introduced Crispy Chicken sandwich.

“We remain focused on improving the quality of our products and innovating around our existing platforms, bringing impactful but operationally simple products to our guests,” said Daniel Schwartz, Chief Executive Officer of RBI in a first quarter earnings call with investors.

“One such example of this is our improved Crispy Chicken sandwich, which we launched in late Q1 and which is performing well.”

The sandwich is “100% white meat chicken filet, seasoned and breaded and carefully layered with fresh lettuce, ripe tomato, and creamy mayonnaise on a potato bun,” according to Burger King’s website.

The Crispy Chicken sandwich replaces its predecessor, the Tendercrisp chicken sandwich, and the reviews have been great so far!

Also new on the menu is the Steakhouse King Burger.

Customers can dig into “two quarter-pound savory flame-grilled beef patties, topped with three half-strips of thick-cut smoked bacon, A.1. Thick & Hearty sauce, crispy onions, melted American cheese and creamy mayonnaise,” the Burger King website reports.

Imagine all that on Burger King’s signature sesame seed bun and you’ve got a meat lover’s paradise!

“Heading into the second quarter, we’re excited to have launched our steakhouse King Burger, which is another example of innovation around our highly successful Bacon King product launched in the fourth quarter of last year,” Schwartz says.

A fruity new beverage is shaking things up

No time for a bowl of cereal in the morning? No worries! Burger King’s got you covered — the new Froot Loops Shake takes the namesake cereal and turns it into a creamy beverage.

This drink is a “Velvety Vanilla-flavored Soft Serve [with] Froot Loops cereal pieces and sweet sauce” hand spun together to offer up a new take on one on America’s favorite breakfast cereals.

Schwartz calls it “a fun and delicious product,” adding that he thinks customers will see it as “yet another exciting reason to revisit our restaurants.”

Mobile order and pay is coming soon

Burger King has long had a mobile app that offers digital coupons and the ability to pay from your phone, but it’s now looking to integrate the ability to order from your phone.

Schwartz told investors during an earnings call that the functionality will launch this year.

Popeye’s has now officially joined the family

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is now Burger King’s newest corporate sibling.

“We’re thrilled to have officially closed the Popeye’s acquisition on March 27, 2017, only a few short weeks after announcing the transaction,” Schwartz says.

“We remain confident in our plan to accelerate the growth of this iconic brand all around our world and our conviction continues to grow as we learn even more about the business from its strong employee and franchisee base.”

Canadian fast food company Tim Hortons is the third member of the Restaurant Brands International family alongside Popeyes and Burger King.
