Emotions surrounding tax season range from dread to eager anticipation. Depending on your financial situation, it could be a complicated process. However, effective tax filing can result in financial gain. Approximately seven out of 10 U.S. tax filers received a refund in 2014, according to data from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

If you’re considering hiring a professional to assist you with your taxes this year, you’ll want to turn to a firm with proven success. To help tax filers know the best companies to work with, the team at Credio evaluated tax firm return data from the IRS to identify the best tax firm in every state. Location is important when it comes to taxes, as all U.S. filers are subject to distinct state and local taxes.

To do this, we looked at companies that processed at least 1,000 tax returns in 2015 (the approximate average for tax return companies in the U.S.) and ranked them by tax return acceptance rate. This is the percent of a firm’s tax returns that are accepted by the IRS. We’ve highlighted the firm with the highest acceptance rate in every state and ranked them from lowest to highest acceptance rate.
