Yesterday we were in Hartford at our long time affiliate WTIC for a midday event and an evening book signing for Clark Howard’s Living Large for the Long Haul. In between the two, executive producer Christa wanted to go back to the boarding school she graduated from in 1990 for the first time in 23 years.

So there we were at Northfield Mount Hermon (NMH) at the border of Massachusetts and Vermont. Christa was on a trip down memory lane, walking all over the campus. But I was like, “We have to go or we’ll be late for the book signing. We have to go or we’ll be late. We have to go!

Finally we start driving back to Hartford and hit massive traffic. Fortunately, the smart GPS on Waze.com saved our bacon. We would have never made the book signing if it were not for Waze, which accesses data from other drivers where you are.

The deal was a bad wreck closed Interstate 91 as we were en route from NMH to Hartford. We were stuck and traffic was not moving at all. WTIC reported the road would not be open until 8 pm. And we had a 7 pm book signing!

So with the help of Waze, it directed us around all these crazy back streets and we got to the book store 12 minutes before the signing. I slammed down some dinner and was able to do the signing.

By the way, if you’re on Waze, I’m “Dollar Menu” and my avatar has glasses on. So if you see that, you know it’s me!
